Blake's on Poydras is a new restaurant in the New Orleans Business District that specializes in contemporary southern food.
I went into Blake's earlier in the week to watch the play off game (the bartender makes great specialty drinks by the way). During this visit a friend and I tried the crab cakes and Beignets and then we decided we must come back for brunch.
During Sunday brunch they offer bottomless mimosas for $14. They have a small brunch menu but anything off the lunch menu can be ordered. The menu items included Shrimp and Grits, Chicken Fried Chicken and Pan seard Salmon. We both decided to split an appetizer which was the Fried Green Tomatoes which is topped with lump crab and Remoulade sauce. This was the best fried green tomatoes combination I have ever had and recommended this twist on a southern classic.
For my main course I ordered the Salmon which is served with fried rice, shrimp and grab meat. I have no complaints about this meal both filling and delicious. My friend had the Shrimp and Grits which she stated was very rich but was a little salty. Beware this is something you can't eat in one seating .. very filling.
After we finished we decided to try dessert. We went for the fried bread pudding with vanilla ice cream that is topped with a chocolate rum sauce.
This restaurant did not disappoint with either visit. On both visits we were able to meet the manager Joey and Chef Dash and other staff members who were friendly and warm. Not only is the food good but 10% of all proceeds will help fund scholarships.
Brunchlust Rating: A Blake's has great food and great customer service. They have great mimosas with a good champagne to OJ ratio.
