There is no shortage of restaurants in the Addison area. And certainly not a shortage of restaurants in the area either. However, Public School 972 (PS 972) is a welcome addition to the scene.
Promising “an education in the art of food and beer”, PS 972 offers “a chef-driven menu, exclusive craft beers and seasonal artisan cocktails”. The Public School chain isn’t a new concept in the Dallas area. The restaurant’s sibling, PS 214, is located in the Uptown area of Dallas in West Village. There are also other locations in Denver, California and Las Vegas.
Brunchlust headed to PS 972 to check out their brunch offerings. Offering modern décor, a small patio, private dining room and a wide open dining area, the newly open restaurant also offers a large Connect Four game, dart board and other games to “school” your dining companions. The school accents are really cute and on point with the concept. The brunch menu looks like a scantron sheet. The regular menu looks like a composition book. Flashcards float over your head in the main dining room. The cocktail napkins look like notebook paper.
Parking was sort of a nightmare. Apparently, there is an underground parking garage that I have never noticed in all the times that I have been in the area. Be ready in case you have to look for it.
We started off with $5 mimosa carafes. Two things of note: You can’t choose another juice flavor if you’re not a fan of orange juice and the carafes are small. Probably about half the size of most normal mimosa carafes. Other than that, the juice to champagne ratio was good, which made for a tasty mimosa. PS 972 adds an orange liqueur, which gives your brunch cocktail a tasty kick.
No one in my crew was in the mood for traditional brunch food so we opted in for steak tacos and burgers. The kitchen was a little slow, so management sent out an order of bacon cheddar tots. A nice touch. I’m not a pork eater but my companions gave them the thumbs up.
Steak tacos had a great flavor. The meat was really tender. You get two pretty large tacos, topped with queso fresco, cilantro and pickled red onion, per order and a choice of sides.
Service was great as well. On time and attentive, without being too intrusive.
Brunchlust Rating: A PS 972 is new. It’s now. Go and get schooled!
