Strike Up Good Eats at Matchbox

Matchbox is huge! The patio will be great when the weather warms up.

Have you ever driven by an establishment and was intrigued about the menu, just on the basis of the look of the building alone? That's what drove me to try Matchbox. It's quite a sight to see: a massive corner restaurant building with a huge wrap around patio, fire pits, and large windows.

The Pineapple Ginger Mimosas were absolutely delicious.

Entering the establishment, I really got to take in it's huge space. If you ever needed a spot for a large group, this place surely could accommodate you. The restaurant space is massive. Plenty of seating options--tables, high tops, and booth seating. The bar has a few TVs and plenty of barstools. There's a huge open kitchen in the middle of the building, where you can watch chefs create and cook pizzas in the large kiln. There's also a second story space as well.

The Steak & Eggs were very filling.

Let's get down to the brunch notes. Matchbox is an American bistro type of restaurant. They offer a number of pizza dishes, burgers, salads, and desserts. They also have an extensive wine list, tons of different spirits, and craft beers. For brunch, there is no carafe deal. But their drink options are a pretty good deal. You can order Mimosas, Bellinis, or Bloody Marys for $3 each or go for the signature bubbly cocktails for $10 each--Cranberry Mimosas, Pineapple Ginger Mimosas, and Blackberry Bellinis. For this trip, my brunch date and I had the Pineapple Ginger Mimosas. They were refreshing and delicious.

The Bloody Mary burger offered a twist on a traditional burger.

The brunch menu itself is pretty small but you are able to order from the full menu. So it can accommodate a number of different tastes. I had the Steak & Eggs--Grilled NY Strip steak, served over scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes, with a grilled baguette on the side. The steak was perfectly cooked to order. My brunch date had the Bloody Mary Burger--a made-to-order burger topped with an egg, pico de gallo, bacon, and cheddar cheese with a side salad. Both of us enjoyed our meals and didn't have any complaints.

Brunchlust Rating: B There wasn't anything particularly spectacular about this brunch but it's a good, solid choice. Especially if you have a large group to plan for.
