There's no question that the brunch scene in Dallas is highly competitive. Restaurants all over the city work towards creating the next newest, hottest brunch experience. Some succeed, some fail. But we are lucky that we have more successes than failures here. It's always especially nice when we discover a spot that becomes a new favorite. Such is the case with Pink Magnolia. Located in one of my favorite areas of the city, the Bishop Arts district, Pink Magnolia is a stand-alone establishment along West Davis Street. The bungalow style restaurant has a small outdoor area with swing-seats (great for people watching in the cooler months, I'm sure), an open dining area with booths, tables, and bar seating. Plus they converted a sun room on the side into an enclosed patio, with additional seating. And with a name like Pink Magnolia, I totally thought pink would be in the decor. But no--the main color is green, which is also my favorite color!
Let's start with the drinks. Pink Magnolia is great for people who love crafted cocktails. Along with a list of brunch cocktails, there are also seasonal cocktails created courtesy of the bartender. Speaking of, shout out to Carl! He kept our drinks flowing and enjoys creating his delicious specialty drinks. They also have traditional brunch drinks and carafe specials. I have fallen in L-O-V-E of the peach Bellini with brandied cherries. So delicious, so perfect. I also enjoyed the Grandmamosa--orange bitters, Grand Mariner, sparkling wine, and OJ. Think of it as a traditional mimosa with a hell of a kick.
On to the food. I had the Cayenne Garlic Shrimp & Grits. If you love savory, Cajun style grits then you want to have this. Jalapeno bacon cheddar grits topped with garlic-y shrimp, all covered with cayenne butter. It's a RICH brunch entree but oh so good. Only thing that could have made it better was a piece of crusty bread to soak up the cayenne butter. Nikki B was also in tow on this trip and had the Warm Crab and Lemon Dip. Even though it was an appetizer dish, it actually was enough for a meal! Again, a rich and creamy dish but definitely worth it.
If you haven't already guessed, we really enjoy this spot. And here's a bonus: they also do Midnight Brunch on Friday nights! From 8 PM to midnight, their brunch menu (and drinks!) are available. We actually ended up going that same week to try it out. It was a great Friday night experience. They even have a bit of music playing!
Brunchlust Rating: A This spot does take reservations but won't seat you until your full party has arrived so make sure your crew is timely!
