Get Involved With The Deep Ellum Mimosa Walks

January 8, 2017

Events that revolve around the concept of brunch and brunch related items (like mimosas!) are automatically going to grab my attention. After all, I AM Brunchlust. And I also am a fan of the Deep Ellum area of Dallas. FUN FACT: Did you know that Deep Ellum was first named Deep Elm? Because of the deep southern drawl of Texans, Elm ended up sounding like "ell'um" so hence the name was officially changed. That's why you'll see signs or graffiti in the area with "Deep Elm" on it. Just a little tidbit for you all.  But because of my love for brunch and my support for all the funky shops in Deep Ellum, I was more than happy to be a part of the second annual Small Business Saturday Deep Ellum Mimosa Walk.

Small Business Saturday is held the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It's a relatively new concept, only a few years old. But it has taken off steam all over the nation. On Saturday, November 26th, Deep Ellum shops opened their doors to patrons with specials and mimosas at the ready. Once purchasing a ticket (online or in-person), we checked in at the registration table and received our exclusive Mimosa Walk glass, map of participating shops, and a Christmas hat to get us into the Christmas season!

You name it, they had it. You can find shops in Deep Ellum for people who like items for their home (Life of Riley) to eccletic thrifting (Elluments) to getting rid of some pent up frustrations (The Anger Room) and getting kinky with your significant other (Leather Masters). Yes, we visited all of these spots during our walk and more. Kettle Art Gallery had some incredible local art, some of which was for sale. Dallas School of Burlesque offered classes to not only engage your fitness but to boost your confidence as well. Kemet Kitchen fed us well, with Non GMO African-inspired dishes and drinks.

The Deep Ellum hosted wine walks are a great way to learn about this unique and colorful section of the city of Dallas. Every month they host wine walks, but I personally endorse the Mimosa Walks. For the love of supporting small businesses and the love of brunch. Make sure you attend the next one in 2017!
